Introduction to whittling

Whittling is the process of making something from a piece  of wood by cutting off small, thin pieces this differs from carving as the final whittled product has less detail than carving. Whittling can be done anywhere with a simple sharp knife, piece of wood ( can be green) and some time

In this whittling workshop you will learn:-

  •  Health and safety related to using a knife safely

  •  Knives used for whittling

  • Choosing wood to work with, benefits and challenges of carving green wood.

  • Basic whittling cuts - Stop Cut, Paring Cut, Sweeping Cut and Pyramid cut

  • Drying and finishing green wood

  • Applying finishes.

Cribden Crafts. What a gem.

My daughters bought me a voucher for my birthday and I used it to go on the Christmas candle workshop. Loved it. It was really enjoyable, learning about different waxes, fragrances, setting/ curing times and ratios of wax to fragrance. Lovely containers to fill after guidance all the way through the process. Great company in a lovely, peaceful surrounding in the beautiful Rossendale Valley.Looking to do some more workshops soon. Thank you so much
