Slate Mosaics full day:

Fitting with the theme of Reusing, Recycling and using Local, Slate which although not quarried locally is widely available in the valley in the form of roof slates, used for centuries on the valley homes and factories, this forms the basis of our mosaic workshops.

Along with slate; pottery, glass, natural and manmade materials will be introduced.

• · You will learn about:-

• Health and safety when cutting Slate, glass and stone

• How to use a range of tools to prepare and cut slate, glass, Smalti and pottery safely

• How to plan out a design and choose materials

• A range of substrates which can be used and situations each is suited.

•  Different techniques of fixing the mosaic to a substrate (base) Indoor and outdoor

• Grouting and finishing techniques

 You will make a small and large mosaic, the latter an outdoor piece.

All attendees will leave with two completed products and the knowledge base to produce more.
